Class Synopsis

Basic Contract Law for Indian Lands

This course is specifically designed for non-lawyers.  However, lawyers who are working for the first time on contract issues involving Indian lands could benefit from the introductory material discussed in this course.

Almost every day, Indian Land Professionals deal with real estate contracts.   These contracts may be for the purchase, sale, lease, right of way, permit, or economic development of Indian Lands.  Therefore, it is essential for these professionals to have a fundamental understanding of contract law issues that are unique to Indian Lands.

In this course, we cover the basics of this area.  In addition to discussing basic contract law principles and concepts, we also cover those issues unique to real estate contracts involving Indian lands.  Restrictions and requirements imposed by current federal statutes and regulations are examined and discussed with case study examples to prepare the student for practical application of what he/she has learned.
